The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department was organized on May 12, 1947, at a meeting held in the local Grange Hall on Route 198 with approximately 45 men in attendance. The Department was formed because the closest firehouse that was in Hillandale was considered too far away. During this first meeting, eighteen members pledged $1,825 to get the Department started.
Through countless members’ dedication over the years, we have grown to be one of the most active volunteer corporations in Montgomery County, Maryland—responding to over 6,000 emergency calls per year.
We are a non-profit organization operating in a combination fire rescue system, with volunteers working with Montgomery County firefighters and EMT/Paramedic’s to staff a fleet of five front line pieces of apparatus and one reserve piece, including:

Our over 70 active volunteer members are local citizens from all walks of life, ranging in age from 16 to 65, that enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of helping others and serving their community.
The Burtonsville VFD is always searching for energetic and committed volunteers to serve in many capacities, including operationally as firefighters and EMT’s and administratively as Associate members.
