The BVFD Celebrates its 75th Anniversary with Challenge Coin Fundraiser
On May 12, 1947 a group of concerned citizens met to discuss the problem the distance from the closest fire station caused in their growing community. By the end of the meeting 18 of them pledged $1,825 and the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department was formed. By June they had voted to purchase land to build a fire station, by September they dedicated their first piece of apparatus, and by November they answered their first alarm.
Today, the BVFD is responding to 6000 calls a year and has touched countless lives.
This year we celebrate those concerned citizens that gave us our start, and all those that have continued their mission by volunteering their time, skills, and support. Thanks to all of them, and all of you, the BVFD has been serving Burtonsville and the surrounding area for the last 75 years.
To commemorate this special occasion, the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department is holding a special fundraiser.
We are asking members of our community to donate $75 towards continuing the BVFD’s mission and legacy of service to the Burtonsville area.
The first 25 donations of $75 or more will be rewarded with a special 75th anniversary commemorative Challenge Coin!
