EMS Week: May 15 – 21
Thank you to many of our EMS Team members (pictured) for their dedication, continued training, volunteer time and sharing of skills which assist the members of our community. Our EMS members run calls day and night, 365 days a year, sometimes back-to-back calls all night long – before they go to their full-time job or classes the next morning. Calls involve injuries from falls, chest pain, stroke, obstetric patients, hemorrhages, overdoses, athletic injuries, vehicle collision injuries, allergic reactions, choking, seizures, and many other serious and potentially fatal events. Our EMS team ranges from age 17 to some in their 60’s, with backgrounds and occupations in military, law enforcement, child care, healthcare, research, lobbying, engineering and teaching. Volunteering in EMS at BVFD comes from many people with differing backgrounds, education varying from high school through Ph.D.s, and representing cultural diversity which mirrors the makeup of our community. Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department is a unique place, and we celebrate those who volunteer their time to make it so.
