BVFD’s Response to Howard County Mall Shooting
Today’s shooting incident at the Columbia Mall had far reaching impact.
The Medic Unit from Station 15 was immediately transferred to Howard County.
The BVFD immediately began “up-staffing” efforts. Personnel were mobilized and a crew was assembled for Ambulance 715. Staffing was ensured for the Rescue Squad and Ladder Truck.
In addition, Montgomery County was proactive in positioning resources (during the early stages of the event) in preparation for any possible additional requests from Howard County.
Medical Ambulance Bus 722, Medic 742-D, Ambulance 712, and the EMS Duty Officer were all transferred/stationed at BVFD 15.
Throughout Montgomery County actions were taken to ensure a smooth and successful mobilization. The ability of BCCRS, BVFD & WVRS to quickly pull extra personnel in and add EMS unit resources was impressive. Both fire station 4 and BVFD 15 made swift accommodations for the influx of units to their facilities.
Fortunately, the Howard County event did did not require extensive additional resources. However, Montgomery County certainly demonstrated the capability to quickly prepare a strategic response.
