In December of 2012 the BVFD held is annual elections. We are pleased to announce that we have a new Chief and a new President. Assistant Chief Glenn Fitzpatrick was elected to be the Fire Chief, and Vice President Tami Bulla was elected to be the President. We wish Glenn and Tami a successful 2013! Unfortunately we had to postpone the 2nd Annual BVFD 5K until 2014. We will be sure to post more information about the 2014 event once it becomes available. Mark your calendars now! Our 2013 Summer Carnival will be 10 straight days, September 12-21, 2013. Our annual Open House will return in October, dates coming soon. Budget Issues: We continue to struggle with an ever-decreasing budget from Montgomery County. The County Executive along with the County Council have targeted the volunteer fire and rescue budget repeatedly over the last couple of years. We need your support to continue delivering high quality, and always available emergency services. Collectively, our fire station saves Montgomery County taxpayers between $3-4 Million annually. The Volunteer Services section of the 2012 Montgomery County Fire/Rescue budget was cut 50% from $6.4 Million to $3.2 Million. The remainder of the Fire/Rescue budget remains level at $176 Million. The volunteers are being vaporized unfairly by County Executive Isiah Leggett and the County Council. Just a reminder, Montgomery County volunteers save the county 10's of Millions of dollars yearly. Please don't punish us unfairly. Please make the cuts even across the board and don't single out the brave men and women who risk their lives without pay. Please help all of the volunteers in the county by calling and writing your County Council member TODAY! http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/csltmpl.asp?url=/content/council/contact.asp. The future of volunteers in this county is in the balance. Christmas has come and gone to the BVFD and so has Santa Claus! We will be posting Santa's 2013 schedule early in December. Our 2012 Summer Carnival was held in Septemeber. Thank you to all those who came by in support of the BVFD. The carnival will return in September of 2013. Stay tuned for more info. And as always if you should any comments, suggestions, or constructive criticism, please, we invite you to email us. And always thank you for visiting our web site. |
