Our Annual Open House is coming up on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 12 PM to 4 PM. Please bring your kids of all ages for a fun and educational experience. This year, we will have displays and demonstrations featuring many types of fire rescue services, police specialty units, a live rescue squad vehicle extrication demo at 3pm (think "Jaws of Life"), and fun activities for all ages to participate in. Of course, you will be able to see, touch, and learn about all of our high-tech fire, rescue, and emergency medical services equipment, including our Rescue Squad 15! Budget Issues: We continue to struggle with an ever-decreasing budget from Montgomery County. The County Executive along with the County Council have targeted the volunteer fire and rescue budget repeatedly over the last couple of years. We need your support to continue delivering high quality, and always available emergency services. Collectively, our fire station saves Montgomery County taxpayers between $3-4 Million annually. The Volunteer Services section of the 2012 Montgomery County Fire/Rescue budget was cut 50% from $6.4 Million to $3.2 Million. The remainder of the Fire/Rescue budget remains level at $176 Million. The volunteers are being vaporized unfairly by County Executive Isiah Leggett and the County Council. Just a reminder, Montgomery County volunteers save the county 10's of Millions of dollars yearly. Please don't punish us unfairly. Please make the cuts even across the board and don't single out the brave men and women who risk their lives without pay. Please help all of the volunteers in the county by calling and writing your County Council member TODAY! http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/csltmpl.asp?url=/content/council/contact.asp. The future of volunteers in this county is in the balance. Christmas is almost here and Santa Claus is coming to town! We will be posting Santa's schedule early in December, so check back to see when Santa will be visiting your neighborhood. Our 2011 Summer Carnival was held in Septemeber. Thank you to all those who came by in support of the BVFD. Unfortunately, we lost the entire first week of the carnival due to the heavy rains. We are contemplating having the carnival in an earlier month, rather than the seemingly always rainy September. Stay tuned for more info. And as always if you should any comments, suggestions, or constructive criticism, please, we invite you to email us. And always thank you for visiting our web site. |
