Volunteer Member Benefits

A Second Family & Lifelong Friendships

At the Burtonsville VFD, you’ll find a second family waiting for you. On duty and off, the members of the department share a common bond to serve their community. Lifelong friendships have been formed in our organization for the last century … if you’re looking to serve in an organization where you feel rewarded in more ways than one, the Burtonsville VFD offers this and so much more.

Quality Training

You provide the commitment and we provide all of the training for FREE. From in-house, local and county training, to state certified courses, and regional and national seminars and conferences – we offer you the opportunity to explore every avenue of emergency services and train you to be the best at what you do. In addition to formal training classes, we conduct nightly training drills to teach new skills and/or practice what you’ve learned to keep them honed and ready to use.

Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) and Maryland State Tax Credit

This program rewards our volunteers’ years of service with a monthly payment benefit after 25 years of active duty, and a generous annual State of Maryland tax credit beginning after only 3 years of active service!

Duty Night Dinners

There is nothing like sitting around our large handmade wooden dinner table sharing a meal with your fellow volunteers! Almost every night, dinner is organized for everyone scheduled to serve their duty night that evening, at little to no cost for each volunteer!

Live-In Program

College students from the area and throughout the country have taken advantage of the Burtonsville VFD’s live-in program that offers free accommodations and one meal a day in return for serving additional duty nights each week. Live-in positions are also available for experienced members who have full-time jobs. See our Membership Types and Requirements page for more information.
