03/20/09 Today, Master Firefighter John Klavon and Captain Curtis Warfield Jr. received the Gold Medal for Valor for their part in the rescue of three small children from a Bethesda house fire in December while working at the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad. For their efforts, Klavon and Warfield received the highest honor given to public safety at the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce's 2009 Public Safety Awards Luncheon. Since the first gold medal was awarded in 1978, just 10 gold medal awards had been given before Friday's event. More than 1,100 people attended the awards luncheon at the county's conference center in North Bethesda. Among those in attendance were Gov. Martin O'Malley, County Executive Isiah Leggett, Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin and U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen. The three triplets which were rescued; Aiden, Bricen and Coleson Petrucelli attended the event with their parents.
