![]() BVFD Dedicates New Pumper
01/11/09 The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD), Inc. held a special ceremony on Sunday, January 11, 2009 to dedicate a proud new addition to it's emergency services fleet. Since May 12, 1947, the dedicated volunteers of the BVFD have been independently acquiring vital apparatus to serve the needs of the community. The BVFD, with support from the community, has proudly purchased each of its front line trucks including a 2005 Pierce Heavy Duty Rescue Squad; 2000 Pierce Dash Engine; and a 1998 Pierce straight heavy-duty Ladder Truck. The new 2008 Pierce Pumper includes a 1500 GPM Hale Q Max pump; 500 Gallon water tank with two foam tanks; 525 HP Cummins ISM Engine; Allison automatic transmission; Jacobs engine brake; ABS Braking, Automatic traction control; seating for six firefighters; side roll over protection, air bag protection for all occupants; front and rear intakes; two high flow discharges; six pre-connected attack lines and over 2000' of supply line. The new Pumper was dedicated in honor of Life Member Michael R. Kerr, who served as BVFD Fire Chief from 1984 - 1988 and 1990 - 1998. Chief Kerr retired from the Montgomery County Park Police in 2004 and has moved to St. Mary's County. During his active tenure with the BVFD he played a pivotal role in developing and implementing innovative training programs and policies that continue to guide operations today.
